One day to go before the end of the month, and I’ve got this month’s game Fallen Vega properly finished.

You play as one of hundreds of Dark spaceships, fighting in the long war against the Light spaceships. No hitpoints, a single bullet can destroy a spaceship or flip which side a Hub belongs to. And while you’re flying around, enjoy the soundtrack – it’s been the main focus of this month’s gamemaking effort. You can download it separately on Jamendo.

Controls:

When in Overview mode, hold the right mouse button to rotate the camera, and click on a hub to spawn a spaceship.

Once spawned, you can move the mouse to pitch and yaw, click to shoot, and use the mousewheel to control the throttle. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard controls: WASD or arrowkeys for pitch and yaw, QE for roll, ZX for throttle, Ctrl to shoot. Or for an Xbox controller, left thumbstick for pitch and yaw, triggers for roll, right thumbstick for throttle, A to shooot.

Among The Storms: Oh Hey Look It’s A Guitar Edition https://alteredtree.co.uk/among-the-storms-oh-hey-look-its-a-guitar-edition/ https://alteredtree.co.uk/among-the-storms-oh-hey-look-its-a-guitar-edition/#respond Sun, 27 Jan 2013 23:15:53 +0000 http://alteredtree.co.uk/?p=74 Clouds!

A post-new-year-jam update for Among The Storms.

Sound! Crashing into hillside makes thud noises, high wind speed makes wooshing noises, and there’s some ambient acoustic-guitar music in the background.

Clouds. These should give you some visual indicator of what the wind’s doing, and make the whole thing look much more picturesque. The title now makes a bit more sense. For these, I’m using CloudsToy by Jocyf (Julian Oliden). Thanks, Jocyf! You’re awesome.

Day/night cycle. No gameplay differences, just there to look good.

And various polishing and bugfixes.

Maybe I’ll release another update in the final days of this One Game A Month month. I’ll be away in London for the next few days, but once I get back there may be time to add ship upgrades and city expansion. Or maybe not, we’ll see.

Conquest Of The Mayans https://alteredtree.co.uk/conquest-of-the-mayans/ https://alteredtree.co.uk/conquest-of-the-mayans/#respond Sun, 23 Dec 2012 14:06:20 +0000 http://alteredtree.co.uk/?p=19 Conquest Of The Mayans screenshot

Last weekend was a Ludum Dare.

This time, the theme was “You Are The Villain”. But I’d been really hoping that the theme “End Of The World” would win the theme vote, so I decided to combine the two and make a game where you, the villain, cause the end of the world.

In the Gregorian Calendar, the date is the 21st December 2012. In the Mayan Long Count, the date is 13.0.0.0.0, and it is time for the Mayan Hordes to emerge from their slumber and bring an end to civilization as we know it.

And it’s up to you to lead the Mayan Hordes, beset upon all sides by modern diseases, the Resistance, shoddy stonemasonry, and the occasional meteorite.

This game was made in 48 hours, but it’s the wrong 48 hours (Sun-Mon rather than Sat-Sun) so I’ve entered it in the less-stringent Ludum Jam category.
